Far into the Sahara Desert lies an oasis. A few years ago it was discovered by a few government officials on a mission to help Africa. To them, it looked rather innocent. Nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary. A typical oasis in the middle of a desert. Yet, something managed to allure the man. Ordering the helicopter to land, he walked up to desert. Without warning, the official jumped in. He disappeared under the water. His bodyguards stared blankly. They knew all hope was lost. The oasis was deeper than it looked and he drowned.
Then, they received a call.
That event led to the most important discovery for humanity. A new realm had been resting beyond the oasis. Waiting for inhabitants. The rich flocked to the site, paying millions of dollars to get in. It was quickly dubbed as the Haven. All governments had a say in the oasis, so they all gained money from these offers. Little known to the rich, there was no way of going back. The governments weren't going to lose a chance at helping themselves. They were getting money. No use telling people they couldn't leave.
It also led to more and more people coming to the Earth. Not aliens, but different people. It would seems that there was no only two realities, but multiple ones. The mass number of people entering the oasis led to the realities coming together to make one. Not many people noticed these changes. They were too concerned with getting to the Haven and making a better life for them.
