Lottie walked through the library doors for the first time this semester and stopped, taking in a breath of the familiar air. Then it hit her, the summer holidays were officially over. Just walking into the library was enough to bring a wave of post-summer depression. Lottie traveled to her usual table by the window and plopped down books, scrolls, and quills rolling everywhere. She didn’t even try to reign them all back in, even though someone could easily use the table as well. Lottie leaned back in her chair and tried to decide how long she could put off her schoolwork while she ran her fingers through her hair, pulling it up into a ponytail.
A group of first years exploring the grounds just outside on the lawns caught her eye. Lottie smirked, she remembered those times well. Hogwarts seemed so magical back then; there was so much to be discovered. Now with the ministry interfering at Hogwarts, thing were just not the same. Lottie found herself wishing for summer at home more and more each day, unlike in the past, when she loved being at Hogwarts with her friends. She watched the first years for awhile longer. It was hard to believe that she had once been that little and looked that lost.
Lottie chewed her lip and finally forced herself to crack open her potions book and notebook, grabbing her quill and taking a few notes. She probably only got five words down before she was once again distracted, playing with the long ponytail on the back of her head. Braiding and unbraiding her brunette locks as she read the same sentence at least seven times. Lottie let go of her hair and rubbed her eyes, focus Lottie, she firmly told herself. Lottie took a deep breath and sat forward trying her best not to let her mind wander. Yet the little voice in the back of her head protested, crying for lazy summer days sprawled out in the sun, wishing she was anywhere but here, doing anything but this.
