It was 2012 when everything went to hell. After multiple protests and public preachings from a group calling themselves “People of Faith”, the nations of the world finally decided to look into the “problem” of Vampyres. They looked into it, and panicked. The UN voted to create an agency called the Supernatural Suppression Force. What happened next could only be known as an unintentional genocide.
The SSF set into operation a project that involved taking children who were Marked and trying to revert them back to human form, which would lead to the eventual death of all of the children due to their need to stay near an adult Vampyre at all times, but the SSF didn't care, they just discarded the dead bodies and tried whatever drugs they had on the next subject. The Faith, though, were much, much worse. They became a paramilitary, hunting down Houses across the States and beyond, shutting them down through vandalism, murder, or both. The Vampyres, of course, fought back, which caused Nyx to create a new race, the Children of the Night, or Wargs, as they were known by mortals. The SSF stayed neutral, but the Faith developed something that made the “war” much more one-sided.
They created a toxic substance known as “Vampox”, a killer gas that only killed Vampyres and Wargs. They delivered it in bombs, darts, any hollow vessel they could get their hands on was used to transmit the Vampox to Houses and any residences of Vampyres they could find. Eventually, a year later, both the SSF and the Faith lost track of the Vampyres and the Wargs, but not through any cunning on the part of the two species. The constant fighting and running and experimentation had dropped the supernatural population to 20% of its original size, and it was simply the fact that neither party could find them that meant they weren't wiped from the face of the earth.
Now, there are only a few Houses left, each one of them catering to a certain continent, one of the biggest being the Europe House of Night, based in the city of Durham, England. It's now 2014, and we still haven't recovered fully from the Purges, but the House is still growing, and we could always use new students...
