FULL NAME Donovan Micheal McCalaghan
"Oh hey guys, I s'ppose this looks like a fairly odd name to you, eh? Well I'm just gonna take a brief second to break down what it means. Donovan means Dark Brown, which can be attributed to either my skin, or my hair, your call on that one fellas. "Mc" is frequently attributed to being the Irish shortenin' of "Mac" a prefix often used in Scottish and Irish surnames to mean "descendant of". Ultimately this means my name literally means descendant of Calaghan, though I have no idea as to who this Calaghan feller' is. Micheal is an alternative, but still correct, form of Michael which is the name of an Archangel and translates to, "he who is like god". What does that all put together mean? Well it means it's a whole load a' gibberish but my ma thought it a handsome name, so I like it."

OVERALL PERSONALITY
Donovan is a friendly and rather optimistic young man. Really, on just about any day you can see him smiling. Why? Well, because you're alive that's why! Most would expect this young man's traumas to have a more adverse affect on him emotionally. Though it had the reverse affect and it does take quite a bit to get him out of this mood.

Though, there is an immediate way to beat this behavior is to plant a seed of doubt. It seems that though this structure is high and powerful, the base is built from glass, and it doesn't take much to cause everything to just topple to the ground.

Naturally Donovan is a Gryffindor, and is considered brave at heart, though some times his passive nature takes control and he simply will let the world pass by. But when it really does matter, McCalaghan displays the fierceness of a proud lion on the savannah.

McCalaghan seems to have a preference to practical magic, as this seems to go along with his fondness for activities that you need to throw yourself into such as Quiditch and Music. While Donovan is often considered to be as brave as any Gryffindor, he has yet to muster up the courage to actually try out for the sport, mainly due to the Weasely twins being his competition, and the fact that if he were to fail he would be failing himself and his mum.

Due to being raised by his mother, Don knows how to treat a lady properly, but is always quick to point out the difference between a girl and a lady. As such applies with nearly all people he meets he will treat them with respect if he feels that they so deserve it, and the reverse if they have done something to forfeit that to either McCalaghan personally or someone he is close to.

Though the rest of his clothes are comfortable, being something along the lines of jeans with button up shirts as his favored articles. Donovan also keeps a St. Christopher and a St. Michael around his neck at all times as a display of his Catholic faith.

HISTORY
Donovan McCalaghan was originally born Donovan Kane, in a slum neighborhood of Dublin Ireland. The majority of the first seven years of his life were filled with fear. Constant worry followed the child of when he was to receive the next beating at the hands of his father. Eventually, when he was seven years old and his father had gotten particularly drunk, the man came home and mercilessly laid in on his son under the pretense of punishment for not being asleep at the right time. After nearly beating the boy to death, John stumbled from the house and died in a gutter of alcohol poisoning.

The next four years of the two's life were considerably easier, Donovan and Danica even changed their last name back to the mother's maiden name several months after John's disappearance. It was soon found that Ms. McCalaghan was pregnant with a girl and that they were to be blessed with an addition to their family.

Of course, it was no surprise when the lad's Hogwarts letter arrived. Naturally Don was excited that he was attending a school where he would learn to perform magic. The down-side was that his family was infamous for being in Hufflepuff, and it seemed that it had been a trend for people to assume those in that house weren't going to be particularly great. So it was rather shocking to Donovan when the Sorting Hat called him out into Gryffindor.

Over the following four years, McCalaghan did very little outside of his classwork and kept largely to himself. Naturally he was a target for bullying as a result of this, but the wizard never let it get him down for too long when it did. This didn't afford him many friends, though, as it seemed that no one really noticed when he was getting bullied. Though rather than let it get to him, he simply put forth the extra effort into class and at night when he practiced on his broomstick.
